Why is PubKeep using a different font?
When a publication uses a font that isn’t on your computer, PubKeep shows a similar font in its place. Here’s how to check and fix it.
Check your fonts
Section titled “Check your fonts”- Open your publication and look at the status bar along the bottom of the window. A small colored dot and a label tell you how your fonts look:
- Exact fonts means every font is the one named in your publication.
- Metric-matched means PubKeep is using a font with the same spacing, so your text stays in place even though the letters may look slightly different.
- Substituted fonts means some fonts aren’t on this computer. PubKeep is showing similar fonts instead, so text may look different or move.
- Point at the label to see each font your publication asks for and what PubKeep is using instead.
- Click Metric-matched or Substituted fonts to open the Substituted fonts list. The left column is the font named in your publication. The right column is what PubKeep is showing.
If a yellow notice appears across the top when you open the file, click Show fonts to see the same list.
Install the missing font
Section titled “Install the missing font”- Find the font file (it usually ends in .ttf or .otf). If you made the publication on another computer, the font is often still on that one.
- Install it on this computer the usual way (on Windows, right-click the file and choose “Install”).
- Quit PubKeep completely, then open it again. On a Mac, choose “Quit PubKeep” or press Cmd+Q, because closing the window isn’t enough.
- Open your publication. The status bar should now say Exact fonts.
The PubKeep desktop app reads the fonts installed on your computer each time it starts, which is why a font you just installed shows up only after you reopen it. In the web version, if you see Use my installed fonts in the status bar, click it to let PubKeep use the fonts on your computer.
If it still looks wrong
Section titled “If it still looks wrong”PubKeep can’t find a font that I know is on my computer
Section titled “PubKeep can’t find a font that I know is on my computer”Quit PubKeep completely and open it again first. That fixes it most of the time. You can also check File > Info: the Fonts line says Installed fonts when PubKeep is using the fonts on your computer, and Bundled twins when it’s using the stand-in fonts it ships with.
If the font still shows as substituted, use Help > Contact Support and tell us the font’s name. See Report an issue with your file.
Can I just pick a different font?
Section titled “Can I just pick a different font?”Yes. Select the text and choose a new font from the font list on the Home tab. The More fonts (Google Fonts) section of that list has many free fonts you can use too.
